Trevor Hoyt

Instructor

Trevor Hoyt began his law enforcement career in 2008 with the Northern Illinois University Police Department, where he served as a patrol officer and explosive-detection canine handler. He joined the Kane County Sheriff’s Office in 2012 and has since served as a Patrol Deputy, Crime Scene Investigator, Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, Digital Forensics Specialist, and Drone Operations Lead. In these roles, Trevor has assisted in numerous major crime and crash investigations, specializing in comprehensive scene documentation, advanced forensic photography, 3D laser scanning, point-cloud analysis, and digital vehicle forensics.

Trevor has completed extensive reconstruction and forensic training through Northwestern University and has been instrumental in developing the Sheriff’s Office drone program, training operators and supporting SWAT, major crimes, and search-and-rescue missions. Beyond law enforcement, Trevor previously served on Active Duty and continues his service in the Illinois Army National Guard within the military intelligence community, providing mission-critical intelligence, advanced analysis, and operational threat assessments. He is a graduate of multiple Army leadership courses and has earned numerous commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Excellence in Competition Badge for pistol.

Trevor has instructed across multiple forensic and technical disciplines throughout Kane County and the region, teaching courses in crime scene photography, evidence processing, crash scene documentation, sUAS operations, digital vehicle forensics, and introductory forensic programs for schools, academies, and community partners. He is a member of the Illinois Division of the International Association for Identification (IDIAI), the Illinois Association of Technical Accident Investigators (IATAI), and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force. His goal as an instructor is to deliver practical, real-world training that builds confidence and competence in modern crime scene, reconstruction, and forensic technologies.
